First Grade Here We Come!

Summer feels like it went by in a flash.  I have a “little” big boy that is going back to school.  Back to the same grade that I taught all those years ago.  I still vividly remember being six months pregnant and packing up my classroom for the final time.  I was so excited to meet this little baby inside me.  I couldn’t really even think about the fact that someday he would grow up and be just like the sweet little kids I taught!  All I pictured was years and years with a little one at home.

Here we are sweet boy.  You were much more confident getting on the bus this year.  At ease with the process, excited for your new teacher Mr. Squires (who totally rocks, BTW!).

I wasn’t a fan of our kindergarten teacher, and I strongly feel that she made the difficult transition to school even harder with her lack of warmth, which is essential to teach kindergarten.  You are setting the tone for the next 12 plus years of schooling, in needs to be phenomenal!  Anyway, we lived through it and now we are so so so lucky to have a veteran, fun-loving, laid back teacher, that Bradley has come home babbling on and on about each day.  I couldn’t be happier with the teacher, but that is mainly due to the fact that Bradley is happy!

He was all smiles on the first day of school!

Bradley you are:

funny and silly

a rule follower

a good friend and brother to your little sisters

a HUGE helper around the house (you help clean up, un load the dishwasher, feed the dog, let the dog out, clean your room, on and on)  thank you sweet boy!!

Lego obsessed!

Star Wars obsessed

Lego + Star Wars really obsessed!

craft obsessed

getting to be a great swimmer

still my little baby in so many ways…

I hope that little Miss Ellie is happy with her teacher this year, considering it is me!  She has done great with having the preschool at our house.  She has had a few moments of mommy whining, but the other children have also cried when mommies left too!  She walks around calling me “Ms. Clare” now since that is what the students are calling me.  It is hilarious!  Yes, she posed like this on her own…

Ellie you are:

super silly

talk about “doughnuts” all the time (I think because mommy doesn’t let you have them)

rough and tumble (you can hang in there with the big kids, and aren’t afraid of anything)

fairy and princess obsessed

you sleep with two pandas and two lovey blankets each night

you love dancing and music

starting to jump off the side of the pool and go under!

I love having you in my class!

Bye Bye sweet boy!  I love you so much!!

A New Chapter Begins

Summer has just slipped through my fingers.  School is just hours away and I am in shock as to how much my life is about to change.

I will be back at work for the first time in seven years.  It almost seems silly to say that since I have been working harder than I ever did teaching while I have been home with my kids.  Of my seven years at home, almost three years I spent pregnant and more than two years were spent nursing a baby.  These seven years haven’t been “taking it easy” but, they have been some of the most formative, fulfilling, difficult, rewarding, tiring, and amazing years of my life.  I have spent months not sleeping, feeding, changing, clothing, diapering, and cleaning up after three of the most important people in my universe.  I have thrown myself into all things motherhood.

Yes, I am that mom.  The one that makes her own baby food, (until the third child comes along and I just don’t have time), uses cloth diapers (until the third child…), rolls out the red carpet for each milestone, birthday, baptism, and holiday.  I am obsessed with pictures of my children, so I take photography classes at night to learn how to take better photos.  I love knit hats and scarves, so I take knitting classes at night to make baby hats, winter hats, and scarves for Christmas.  I love curtains and clothing, so I learn to sew, and have been busy making pillows, dresses, and embroidered shirts for my kids.  I feel so lucky to have been given the chance to do all of these things with and for my children.  I drank the “Stay at home Mommy” kool aid and I enjoyed it.

But, Wednesday starts a new chapter in my life.  I am not quite sure how this chapter will unfold.  There are going to be bumps in the road and stressful days I know.  This new chapter has two leading rolls “Mommy” and “Teacher.”  My little dream of owning my own preschool has always been there since my visit to Reggio Emilia in college.  Through a lot of hard work and help from my husband,  Crozet PlaySchool will open it’s doors this week to a group of wonderful families.  I hope you will follow me on my journey as a mother and a teacher.

All of this seems a bit dramatic when I really get down to the nitty gritty of my new “job.”  I am going to be working from home, Ellie will be with me this year, and Gracie will be with me next year.  I will be done at 12, and able to have lunch with my girls, get Bradley off the bus, and still be the mommy I want to be in the afternoons.  It will be a change in many ways though.  Gracie will be cared for in the mornings this year.  I will be juggling school clean-up and prep/planning.  Many of my elaborate holiday and party planning my be curbed this year while I get my footing in this dual role.  My hope is to find the balance with this new part-time career.

I know that Naptime Novels will not be getting the love and attention that it has in the past.  But, I will still be updating about my kids whenever I have a free moment.  They will always be my favorite subjects to photograph, the center of my universe, and the loves of my life.  I can look back without one regret about spending close to a decade at home with them.  I love you my littlies, b, e, and g.  I am blessed to have worked so hard for you these past few years.

Delinquent Mommy Blogger

Wow!  I can tell summer is getting the best of me!  I have been totally neglecting my little blog.  The days of full lately and the moments are fast and fleeting when I can sit down at the computer, write, and upload pictures.  I have been spending a lot of time at night working on things for the my preschool, which will be starting in just a few short weeks.  School starts in our area on August, 21st, and I will be following the public school calendar for my preschool.  I have a lot to share as far as the preschool goes, but for now some summer fun…

We have spent quite a few days at the lake this summer.  Boating, swimming, jumping of the dock, and as if the lake couldn’t be any better my parents bought a trampoline with a slide on it for the kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have gone crazy for this if I was 6 years old.  I loved all things dance, tumbling, and water related.  This is the perfect package!  Bradley must have jumped off of it a hundred times one day.  My Dad also took the cousins out on a tube ride…

Bradley and Sammy getting ready for their ride!  I love this tube because it is like riding around the lake on a couch.  My Dad goes nice and slow and it is perfect for the little kids.

Even Ellie got in on the action!  It is hard to tell from this picture, but when the kids want to go faster they give a thumbs up sign to the boat.  Here she is telling my Dad to speed things up!  Love her!

Bradley and I pulled out Mouse Trap the other day for some inside fun.  We have been home a lot more in the mornings, because we have been giving Grace a morning nap if she needs one.  I used to LOVE this game when I was a child.  I got it for Bradley for Christmas and he has fallen in love with it too!

This is a random photo, but Ellie pulled out Bradley’s cowboy boots and hats the other day and walked around the house with a horse.  She made everyone call her a cowgirl.  Yeeeee hawwww!
