"How To" Carve Pumpkins with an ALMOST Two Year Old!

Find a place outside, so you don't make a mess.

Tell your toddler what a pumpkin is, but they may not say the word yet!

Get excited, come on this will be FUN, FUN, FUN!!

We are carving the EYES, Bradley where are the EYES?

Bradley isn't this FUN?? Do you like the P U M P K I N?? (say it slowly)

Elapsed time 10 minutes

Daddy still carving eyes and nose (come on Daddy!!).

We have opened up door to playroom from the deck. Bradley has brought out two different coloring books and crayons AND markers.

He also brought out magnet numbers and realized that they stick to the FIREPLACE!! (toddler quickly losing interest in carving pumpkins!!)

Elapsed time 20 minutes

Bradley now has his dinosaurs on the deck and it telling them about carving pumpkins. (we are getting excited about the pumpkins again!)

Elapsed time 23 minutes

Bradley now realizes that his phonics ABCs stick to fireplace. We listen to the ABC song 17 times before the end of our pumpkin carving!

Elapsed time 25 minutes

Daddy are you STILL carving that pumpkin??

Elapsed time who knows??

Oh! This is why you did all that, it turns into a FACE!! WOW!

Can I eat the seeds?

It is past dinner time, but we FINISHED!
We made a Daddy and a Baby Pumpkin with our ALMOST Two Year Old!
Disclaimer: Please don't try this at home, unless you have a lot of back up toys and a lot of patience!
Time for the final photo...

Happy Halloween!
Really Yummy PUMPKIN Pasta Recipe:

Penne-Wise Pumpkin Pasta
Rachel Ray

1 pound whole wheat penne pasta
2 tablespoons EVOO
3 shallots, finely chopped (I used onions today)
3 cloves garlic, grated
2 cups chicken broth
One 15 oz can pure pumpkin puree
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
2 pinches cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
Grated Parm cheese

1. bring large pot of water to a boil, salt it, add the pasta and cook until al dente. drain.

2. while the pasta is working, in a medium skillet, heat the EVOO, 2 turns of the pan, over medium heat. add the shallots and the garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in chicken broth, pumpkin, and cream. add the hot sauce, cinnamon, and nutmeg; season with salt and pepper. lower heat and simmer until it thickens, about 5 minutes.

3. toss the pasta with the sauce and pass the parm around the table!

We did the pumpkin craving thing this year too. Porgie kept trying to grab the knife away from my husband! She is crazy.

And pumpkin pasta? That sounds delicious! We used to eat at this little Afghan restaurant, where they served pumpkin as a side dish. It was so yummy.

I love the faces! Your husband did a great job. I can't carve worth a darn, and my husband doesn't get the whole halloween thing (they don't celebrate it yet in Brasil), so our pumpkins turn out pretty scary looking. Which I guess is okay for halloween, but not when you're trying to be a holiday martha stewart.
